Want to explore the world of hydroponics with your students? Want to baffle their minds that plants can grow without soil? Of course you do! There are several vertical hydroponics systems available from Octagon Hydroponics. These growing centers help save space in their design and would be ideal for learning about horticulture. There are several layouts available, some geared toward taller vegetables like tomatoes, others for low growing veggies like lettuce. The design includes nutrient delivery systems, including Ebb and Flow, NFT, and Drip and Mist systems. Students could conduct experiments on plant nutritional needs and which system delivers the best amount of nutrients to a plant. Plus, how cool would that be to go to your hydroponics station, pick your lettuce and tomato, find an unfortunate pig and have a BLT?
